Bedfordshire Police has appointed a Rural Matters Liaison Officer.

PC Tau Chamboko, who joined the force in 2002, will spend the next six months getting to grips with the issues faced by Bedfordshire’s rural and farming community.

He will work in partnership with local authorities and other departments across the force to find solutions to issues causing concern to rural communities.

Assistant Chief Constable Mike Colbourne commented: “Bedfordshire is a diverse county, a large proportion of which is rural. It’s important that we deliver a high quality service across all the communities we serve, and I hope Tau’s appointment will demonstrate to our rural communities that we are committed to tackling the issues that matter to them.

“Crime will not be tolerated in any area of the county, and the force remains committed to protecting people, fighting crime and keeping Bedfordshire safe.”

Tau has already met with National Farmers’ Union leaders and key rural interest groups, who have pledged their support.

During his 14 years with Bedfordshire Police, Tau has spent time on patrol in Luton and in the Safer Neighbourhood Team. Most recently he was a staff officer for the Deputy Chief Constable.

He said: “I am enjoying my new role, and am keen to meet as many people as possible. It’s a brand new role for me and I am looking forward to taking on the challenge.”
